Anna Delvey Cast on Dancing With the Stars
The Fascinating Thing Is How offended Anna Delvey is by the Negative Reactions to Her Casting
Their leader, Anna Delvey (real name: Anna Sorokin), showed up for the debut of Season 33 of ‘Dancing With the Stars. Despite her dance partner, Ezra Sosa, raking in the praise and support for their performance during Week 1, Delvey was poorly received.
Sosa said Delvey — who went by the moniker of “fake heiress” — struggled with the way she was portrayed on some TikTok video. Sparing him from the slander After being left in tears from reading the comments about his friend, a moment of vulnerability Sosa rarely shows I’m gutted.
Ezra Sosa Trusts In Delvey Amidst Her Past
Though Sosa admitted that Delvey’s purported history was “controversial” and “just not right,” he called for a second chance. Sosa revealed that he got to know Delvey quite well through the rehearsals, saying she seemed like a completely different person than what had been depicted in the media.
He posted about hoping to give Delvey the best experience on the show, and said he was bummed that she wasn’t receiving the same love he was feeling. He ended by commending her on her improvement for Week 2 and then he begged fans to give her a fair shake.
Backlash to Delvey’s Casting
But the decision to have Delvey on Dancing With the Stars has caused a great deal of anger. Given the nature of the moment and the sheer volume of tweets, a number of viewers did ask themselves why someone who had committed a crime was being given such an important platform. Look, Carrie talked a little bit during the premiere about how we should at least appreciate Anna for working hard, but hard work or not… I don´t know that her story warrants all those segments tbh.
Wearing the bedazzled ankle monitor she has come to be known for, Delvey performed a Cha-Cha to Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso.” The judges gave her a score of 18/30
Delvey’s Turn Drives Maksim Chmerkovskiy Nuts
Former Dancing With the Stars alum Maksim Chmerkovskiy did not approve of Delvey being cast. On an episode of the TMZ Podcast, Chmerkovskiy weighed in on featuring Delvey on the show, arguing that there are plenty other people who deserve to have their stories told.
He referred to Delvey’s criminal past and described her as “a con artist” and said he doesn’t believe anything that comes out of her mouth. Chmerkovskiy also expressed a belief that the show had better options than casting Spicer and he thought it would be better spent not putting so much focus on what they believe was nothing more than fake news.
Anna Delvey’s Notorious Past
Anna Delvey, whose real name is Anna Sorokin, has received international attention for pretending to be a wealthy German heiress and scamming banks, hotels and friends out of more than $250K. She was convicted on a number of charges in 2019, including grand larceny and theft of services, and faced 4-12 years in prison. She did just over three years before her release in 2021 due to good behavior.
A Netflix series called Inventing Anna chronicling Delvey’s life aired afterwards, eventually making her more of a thing. That said, she has since been placed under house arrest in New York City and is reportedly fighting deportation following an arrest by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for overstaying her visa.
A Divided Audience
Meanwhile, there’s been quite the mixed response to Delvey appearing on Dancing With The Stars. Fans are divided — some believers in second chances and her journey, with others questioning whether a criminal background should be present literally anywhere. Still, it seems likely that regardless of the rap sheet (which will be as long as one of her flowing Sephora wigs), Delvey’s next act is a performance destined for coverage and fanfare.
