A Heartbreaking Disappearance
When the California Governor and his wife, Benny and Susanne Anguiano took their two cats to Rayne Beau for Yellowstone National Park this June. It will be Rayne Beau’s first time out in the wild. But not long after the pack turned up at Fishing Bridge RV Park, Rayne Beau was spooked and slipped away into the woods. For four days they patrolled the park and placed his favourite food and toys in vain before driving home with no otter on board.
Susanne added: “We had to leave him.” “Without a doubt, that was the hardest day of my entire life — I felt like I was leaving him behind,” he said.
A Silver Lining in the Uncertainty
Weeks Became Passing Days, Couple Fear They may never See Rayne Beau Again. Nevertheless, Susanne never gave up hope. As she drove back through Nevada, she saw a double rainbow and took it as a sign that everything was going to be okay with her little buddy.
They did not hear of Rayne Beau for two months. The wilderness of Yellowstone felt all too remote for such a reunion. But it was not the end of the story.
A Miracle Discovery
Early last August, their wish came into fruition. They got a call from pet-tracking service Pet Watch, saying Rayne Beau had been located. The cat was found by a woman in Roseville, California — 800 miles from Yellowstone — and she turned him over to a local animal shelter.
The staff at the shelter scanned Rayne Beau for a microchip and were able to quickly locate his two-legged family. The Anguianos were relieved to learn that Rayne Beau was alive, and exhausted after his amazing trip.
The Mysterious Journey
How Rayne Beau got all the way out there is still a mystery. Rayne Beau tipped the scales at a mere 7 to 8 pounds, it was half of his original body weight and had clearly be a long ride. He was put back in the morning, thanks to his microchip.
We are just happy he came back to us, Susanne said. “It’s truly a miracle.”
A Reminder for Pet Owners
The couple has been reunited with their family thanks to the new chapter played out on the morning news and is still inspiring them to tell other pet owners that a pair of GPS ankle monitors could save your pet’s property or potentially microchips when lost. The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) reports that 10 million pets are lost or stolen each year in the US and only 1 in 50 cats ever return home. However, microchipped cats are way more likely to be found.
