Garth Brooks Faces Sexual Assault and Battery Lawsuit from Former Hair and Makeup Artist
LOS ANGELES — A lawsuit filed in California says country music star Garth Brooks groped a woman and forced her to join others watching him urinate. Roe, who has been a hairstylist and makeup artist for Brooks, accused him of the incidents in 2019. That includes accusations of rape, sexual harassment and misconduct in the context of work trips.
The Allegations
In May 2019 Brooks raped her in a Los Angeles hotel room, according to Roe’s lawsuit. She also alleges that Brooks would frequently make sexual comments and, in her words, “pull out his dicks” so to speak while sharing graphic sexual fantasies with her — creating an unbelievable work environment. Roe had originally been hired to work with Brooks in 2017 and had worked on hair and makeup for his wife — country artist Trisha Yearwood—since 1999.
In one instance, Roe alleges she was pushed by Brooks to grab his crotch and uttered crude statements. She also claims Brooks was always talking about a “threesome” with Brooks and his wife, Yearwood. Roe quit working for Brooks in 2021 and has since removed himself from the situation.
Brooks’ Response
The allegations have been categorically denied by Garth Brooks.”I have been inundated with complaints and threats for two months full of lies and stories that have always been sad if I did not open the door for many million. Brooks calls the lawsuit an extortion attempt to destroy his character.
Brooks filed an anonymous lawsuit as “John Doe,” and was attempting to bar Roe from sharing her allegations publicly. He said he filed anonymously to shield the impacted families on both sides.
The Legal Battle
Both events removed the parties from darkness. The lawyers for Roe — Douglas H. Wigdor, Jeanne M. Christensen and Hayley Baker — released a statement praising their client’s courage. ‘Brooks will be held responsible’: Sheriff’s deputies said they hadn’t seen the video.
Brooks, meanwhile, claims that the allegations are false and a ploy to sabotage his name, career and family. Brooks also says, “I have faith in the system and I am not scared of the truth…, I know that can be the man that they painted.
What’s Next?
The lawsuit is expected to be protracted, and both sides are continuing litigation preparations. Coleman said the result of the case would be consequential for Brooks — a young figure who has established himself as an emerging GOP leader in recent years. And while Roe is pursuing justice for what she says happened, Brooks is trying to clear his name and save face in the country music business.
