The VP Debate Gets a ‘Party Vibes’ SNL Cold Open With Kamala Harris Watch Walz and Vance

In a humorous skit, “Saturday Night Live” parodied the recent vice-presidential debate featuring Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Senator JD Vance. The SNL cold open, based in Vice President Kamala Harris and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff’s living room, played off of the easy camaraderie between Walz and Vance on stage at the outset but with Harris looking confused and exasperated.

Harris and Emhoff Enjoy a Night

The skit kicked off with Vice-president Harris (played by Maya Rudolph) and her husband, Doug Emhoff (Andy Samberg), preparing for a much-needed night off following several months of ensuring. When they saw the vice-presidential debate being unraveled, Emhoff half-joked: it was HER first break in three months!

Beginning Statment: A couple of hilarious comments from Walz and Vance

Bowen Yang (JD Vance) and Jim Gaffigan (Tim Walz) shared some joshing back-and-forth on the debate stage. In a bid to woo female voters, Vance also praised the debate moderators as “mothers” during his remarks targeting women. At another point, Walz was caught on camera writing on papers and said he was grading midterms, not getting ready for the debate.

On both sides, the candidates danced around the questions with vague non-answers. So when questioned about the Middle East crisis, instead of actually responding, Vance commended the question for its relevance and refused to answer it. In a lighter vein, Walz joked about the basics of debating when he said: “Debating is 30% fun and 70% da-mental.

Harris’s Frustration Grows

The more the dispute went one, the angrier Rudolph’s Harris became. Listening to Walz and Vance reconcile, she shouted sarcastically: “Why are they friends? Why are they vibing?” while spitting out her wine. Emhoff, looking to assuage her fears that Walz would be okay.

In a humorous touch, Harris said she would have named him “Josh” instead — spurring family banter with Emhoff who asked, “Josh Shapiro?” “Josh Cabernet,” answered Harris, with his own reference to wine.

Walz’s Shocking Statement

During the course of the debate, Walz (Gaffigan) dropped a significant bombshell from an actual comment Walz had earlier in reality: “I’ve made friends with school shooters. In utter disbelief, Rudolph’s Harris smashed her wine glass in a now-viral moment.

Biden’s Cameo

The sketch closed with an unannounced pop-in by Dana Carvey, who was playing President Joe Biden. Stepping into Harris’s living room the next day – fresh off a good debate ribbing – he asked, jokingly, “What is up with that dude? He’s crazy, get your facts right, Jack!

Emhoff ended the skit by dryly ribbing Vance’s clip regarding Trump winning the 2020 election and how it ultimately didn’t amount to anything.
