Wendy’s Celebrates SpongeBob 25th Anniversary by Bringing Krabby Patty to Life
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of SpongeBob SquarePants, Wendy’s is bringing a piece of Bikini Bottom to, no this may not be some joke about their pickles or whatever. The iconic Krabby Patty burger and a Frosty flavor tied to the show will be offered together for a short time.
THE KRABBY PATTY IS NOW FEATURED
From October 8, the “Krabby Patty Kollab” cheeseburger will be available at Wendy’s in the U.S., Canada and Guam. There may not be any Krabby Patties from the fictional Krusty Krab restaurant on the SpongeBob SquarePants cartoon, but this limited-edition cheeseburger is possibly as close as you can get. Wendy’s take has a single quarter-pound beef patty, cheese topped with ketchup, mustard and pickles on warm-toasted bun.
New Frosty Flavor: PINEAPPLE BY THE SEA
Starting today, however, when Wendy’s rolls out its new Frosty flavor, inspired by the same SpongeBob pineapple undersea digs as one of Mr. Krabs’ employees vs. The Chum Bucket joint creations on Fridays at Collinsport St., this will be officially dubbed something called “Sponge-Tastic Yellow* Sunshine” for bigger kids like us too old to have gotten the Nickelodeon memo re: commercial break crossover programming synergy When You’re 10½ years old. The Pineapple Under the Sea Frosty is a blend of a vanilla Frosty with pineapple and mango-flavored puree—offering patrons a tropical take on the original treat.
Nostalgia and fast-food innovation
Fast-food chains seeking to increase sales have turned again and again to the millennial nostalgia well, and Wendy’s is no exception with its SpongeBob SquarePants collaboration. Wendy’s will also be making some limited-time menu items inspired by the iconic cartoon since it wants to appeal towards kids and adults who might have watched the show while growing up. This sounds a lot like other fast-food deals, like Burger King’s Wednesday’s Whopper with The Addams Family animated franchise.
The collab brings together, “two of the most iconic squares in pop culture,” said Lindsay Radkoski, U.S. Chief Marketing Officer for Wendy’s, referring to both SpongeBob and Wendy’s square burgers.
A Limited-Time Offer
The Krabby Patty Kollab meal debuts nationwide Oct. 8 and will have an exclusive LA preview on Oct. 7 and in Panorama City, where fans can experience a one-of-a-kind Wendy’s drive-thru activation on Oct. 8. For fans of all ages, this is a first-ever real-world menu item inspired by the Krabby Patty that everyone must try before it disappears.
As quick-service brands continue to fight for mind-share with consumers, deals like this may serve to generate the kind of increased traffic and sales many are after. In the tradition of appealing to both our nostalgia while implementing brand new flavors, Wendy’s Krabby Patty meal should no doubt be one for the books.
Are you ready, kids? OK, now let’s check out this limited time experience!
